How can I help COATS?

Volunteers

It is important to stress that the Charity could not function without its committed band of volunteers. There are a number of areas where we can use any time that you can volunteer to help the Charity depending on your skills and interests.

Charity Shop

Volunteer to serve in the shop or sort incoming donations via a rota even if only for a couple of hours just once a month.

Day Centre

At the Centre in Pinewood Avenue volunteers help with preparation, cooking or serving meals.  There are other opportunities for volunteers such as leading an activity, teaching a skill,  befriending our visitors etc

Bus

An ever-pressing requirement exists to recruit new drivers as current drivers ‘retire’. Passenger assistants are also required on all journeys.

The Property

We try to do as many repairs, decorating and maintenance tasks as possible ourselves, both to the building and the garden. Minimal skills are an advantage but all hands are welcome.

Helpers

There is a very friendly pool of volunteers organising, managing and operating our fundraising events. There is always a shortage of helpers at the ‘special’ events. New ideas are welcomed.

Donations

Small or large donations are welcome; it is particularly gratifying to be remembered with a legacy in your will.

Goods

The shop is totally dependent on donations of items for sale. There are a few restrictions. We cannot accommodate large items such as furniture, and large electrical goods. Items must have resale value, we do not welcome “junk”.

Gifts

Unwanted but good quality gifts can be used as raffle prizes at fund raising events.

Trustees

A member can influence the Charity’s work by voting at the annual general meetings and even stand for election to the Committee to thereby become a Trustee of the Charity. See List of trustees here.
